Can't get Panther XL Joystick to work. Help!
« on: December 08, 1999, 10:42:00 PM »
I am using a Madcatz Panther XL joystick along with CH Pedals.  The rudder pedals work fine and are plugged into the Panther like it was designed for.  I'm a newbie to this beta and do not know if i am calibrating right or not.  But do everything the calibration routine says, and still have no movement with alierons or elevator.   The stick works fine in AW3 and other flight sims.  In AW3 i have to use CH combat stick or thrustmaster setup and it works fine, though i can not setup other button functions except the hat and buttons 1 throuh four.

Anyone know how i can get the Panther XL to work?

Hiya G.Gibson! Good to see another Panther user!

This is a known issue with Aces High. As of right now the PantherXL and a couple other joysticks are having some problems. I have written the Aces High team and this is my response.

".....  We have had a similar problem with the Saitek that we just found and will fix in the next version.  However, I'm not sure that that is the same problem that you're having since it's a 6 axis USB stick.  If the next version of AH doesn't fix it, we'll implement a fix as soon as we can get our hands on one and find out what the problem is...."

So HOPEFULLY, it will all be fixed in the next version of Aces High. :-)

<S> Starknite

Thanks for the feedback.   My Panther is not a USB, but hopefully the next AH fix will fix the problem anyway.   I tried out alot of sticks before going with the Panther and am real pleased with it for its versatility and ability to take alot of heavy abuse.  Hopefully we can get AH and Madcatz to get some configs for use with AH.  If they will i think alot of Panther users will be flying AH.  In the meantime what do you use to fly with?  I have a Suncom that i used in AW but had no support for my CH Pedals.  The Panther is great because it only requires one input to the soundcard.

Actually Gibson, I use my PantherXL for all my flight games. I love the grip on the flight stick, plus the fact that I can use the trackball as a rudder (since I don't have pedals    ). Strange thing is, I bought this Joystick to help me with Quake and such, but I use my keyboard with built in trackball for that, and no matter how I tried, I just could not get my hands to use the Panther better than the keyboard, so I'm still a kb junkie for FPS :-) but for almost ANYTHING else... Especially flight sims, it's the Panther for me

Weeee

Downloaded the new update last night, and the Panther is now working on all axis.   It is very very sensitive though, and i am trying to experiment with different stick scaling etc.  I slowed it down some but the nose is still bouncy when trying to get on target.  Wished they had some drones to practice with offline.  I don't know if i can use stick mapping.   I tried, but could not get that to work last night.  Maybe i am doing something wrong.  Anybody know how to set the buttons?

I love the Panthers feel for flight sims to. Its as good as any CH product and is equivalent to the Combat Stick plus more buttons and cheaper the last time I checked.  I hope AH at least gets the 2nd hat working if not all the 17 buttons.  I bought the inexpensive set of CH Pedals.  Got them for about $39.00.

For First person shooters i to use the keyboard and mouse plus the Panther, but know alot of guys use the Panther exclusively for all games.  What ever works i guess, but for flight Sims its the Panther for me to.

Tried the stick mapping last night and it is working.  Now just have to get spikes out etc.  Hopefully i will have smooth operation of stick.  My flying online was terrible due to stick sensitivity and the true Aces in the air.   Keep up the good work AH.
